USS Newport News Comes Home 
After Six-Month Deployment

The Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine USS Newport News returned Wednesday, April 23, 2003  to the Norfolk Naval Station after a six-month deployment that included participation in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The 360-foot Newport News, which launched several Tomahawk cruise missiles during Operation Iraqi Freedom, deployed on Oct. 3, 2002.

The submarine, with a crew of 148, is commanded by Cmdr. Frederick J. Capria.
